MY ART

Triumph of the Rose, 2012

Triumph of the Rose was created in 2012 for the Buste en Rose show at the Zhou B Art Center. The concept came from Robin Rios of 4Art, to raise awareness of breast cancer and raise funds to fight the disease. The Opening night reception was a celebration of the female spirit and the power of art to express ourselves.

Reaching for Joy

Reaching for Joy was created at the time of former president trump’s election. My heart was deeply bruised and this sculpture helped lead me into the light.

Marching for tRuth was inspired by RBG’s death and what she meant to the world and all of us warrior women. She made her debut at the Rest in Power: The Life and Legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, at Stola Contemporary Gallery.

Marching for Peace was my first journey into social justice, and I have a lot more to say. The summer of 2020 was turbulent, with the fear of the pandemic and the turmoil over George Floyd’s death. It opened a new chapter of my art, as I struggled with the fear, anger and uncertainty, my new sculpture emerged to contain those feeling.

Justice 2021 was created at a time when our justice system is shaky at best and a bit rusty. The social unrest in 2020 and continuing is in need of change and reform. This piece was inspired by the 2021 Stola Contemporary show, “Liberty and Justice for All”.

The 2020 Democratic Convention was uplifting at a crazy time in the world. As I watched their tribute to Year of the Woman 2020 my heart soared with the power and beauty being honored, the images of women of all colors, ages and stages of life burned into my memory. This piece Marching with RBG came out of that feeling of pride and inclusion. My husband thinks it’s absolutely too much, but it expresses that moment.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing was tragic in many ways, but her legacy is rich and vibrant. Her contributions to equality made my life possible, I grew up with her influence and benefited from her fight. This piece, Marching for TRUTH came from my heart, and depicts RBG as all of us women who have lived with the inequalities built into the system, and have gratitude to Ruth for bringing us this far. We all continue the journey.

I was looking for inspiration for a new project and came across this character. The Egg Man, is based on drawings I did for my Senior Project as an undergrad at SAIC. During the beginning of the covid crisis we all needed a smile, that’s where TEM came in.

I work with a brilliant artist/instructor Jill King, in one of our Friday afternoon classes she asked us, “If you could embrace the absurd, what would you embrace?” That lit a spark for me, and Henry the Absurd was born.

Rhapsody of Air, is joyful piece, done while I was experimenting. And, really expresses the journey we are on.

I was invited to participate in a wild and wonderful show at the Zhou B Art Center. Santo Boracho was the product of my imagination, translates to “the Drunken Saint”.

Marching for Liberty reminds us that our freedoms are not insured, and we all have to work together to galvanize our democracy. Our Lady Liberty’s message is powerful and under attack, ” Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free….” She continues to hold her lamp high to light the way.
